It depends on what is causing the hair loss. Is it demodex? Allergies? An infection? Hot spots? Just whelped?
For general coat care start with the nutrition. Feed a high quality food. Make sure it is high in EFAs (Essential Fatty Acids) such as omega 3 and omega 6. Keep the dog's coat tangle free. If the skin is dry, use a moisturizing shampoo like emu oil. If the skin is itchy, try oatmeal shampoo. If there are moth-eaten looking spots that are NOT moist, you can try selsun blue shampoo.
If it's moist, then it's probably a hot spot and I would have expected your vet to instruct you on caring for it.
